Truth hurts before it heals us.

I love to help people release ideas about themselves that make them feel stuck and unworthy, so they can have the life they want: a life that feels good, not only looks good. In clinical terms we like to label it as anxiety, depression and trauma, but in the end all these labels are another form of saying I feel unworthy to live my life fully. Truth is crucial for living a life free from anxiety, depression and trauma, but it is also the most painful. That’s why most of us avoid it, it hurts too much. We don’t like to see the truth about ourselves, our own lives and behavior.. It starts with small lies, like; “I am fine”, “It didn’t hurt me”, “I am not scared”, “I am unbothered”. Until we feel the need to hide ourselves completely. In my therapy sessions this is the most difficult part, but the most important. The Psychologist Carl Rogers, who developed the Person-Centered Therapy, put at the forefront of his approach transparency, which means being open and honest with your clients. I believe in this as well. In my Sessions we talk truth. I never hide things I see in my clients, from my clients. I want them to know what I know, and I want them to decide if what I see is accurate or not. This transparency helps my clients heal through confronting their fears, accepting them and changing what needs to change..
So, we speak truth to accept, evaluate and think together of actions they can take to get out of the predicament they are in. That’s why we, as psychologists, create save and private spaces to help our clients confront those truths. That’s also the reason why I have so much respect for my clients, because it takes courage to confront the truth.
Ask yourself:
How much are you lying to yourself?
Why?
What would it give you to tell the truth?
How much are you stuck in your life because you are not confronting a truth\your truth?
As always, feel free to contact me for support.
