The Odyssey – shows how the therapeutic process works and why it is never about arriving somewhere, it is about the journey.

The Odyssey – shows how the therapeutic process works and why it is never about arriving somewhere, it is about the journey.

I have always had great respect for the journey, maybe it is because I never really had a place I called home. Since my birth I started a path that led me into the depth of life, soul and love. But I think deep down I was looking for my home. This feeling where you can finally rest, be at peace and surrender everything. It took me a long time to realize that what I was searching for was myself and when I did, I wanted to share it with everyone. I guess that’s why I do what I do for so many years. The story of the Odyssey shows this beautifully. The war can be seen as a synonym for things we go through, trauma we encounter, that takes us forcefully from our home (our true Self’s). On the journey back to ourselves we encounter demons (anxiety), monsters (rage) and people (ego) that will do everything to prevent us from coming home. Our strength, our intend and our courage will determine if the journey (therapy process) will take us back and even if it does, we need to remember everything we have become on the journey back to be able to stay at home.

So, the journey is everything in life, because it helps us evolve to the place we need to go and helps us to stay aware of what’s important to us. Home is a tricky business, because it can change in an instant, but it has the illusion of being steady. It isn’t, because we aren’t.

What I have realized doing this for so many years is that the journey in fact is the home, and when the journey ends, we end. So, like in life, so also in therapy, don’t try to arrive somewhere, start realizing that the journey is all that it is about. The psychologist is a companion on the journey until you can keep going on your own, because you have learned to trust yourself, love yourself, respect yourself enough to not get stuck, and even if you do, the therapy process has taught you how to deal with that as well. The process makes you better, stronger and more courageous to keep going, it never ends.

So, if you feel the need for a psychologist to accompanying you on your journey feel free to contact me. I will be honored to help you get back home.
